I think that you should choose this one since it is the more refined and popular version of the generation 1 games. It does have a few issues, as I remember being a tad difficult for me replaying it years later. It's a version of Pokémon red and blue that is refined as infinitely better in every way. My first Pokémon game was leaf Green when I was around 7 or 8. Both games are fantastic, but I can help you by giving some information about both that maybe useful for helping you decide.
